If you have considered investing in an inflatable kayak, it can be difficult to know which one will suit your needs best. There are a lot of options as well as differences in weight, size, performance and price. To find the right inflatable kayak for you, first you must be clear on your criteria.

Instructions
1 Decide what kind of kayaking you will be doing most. Though many inflatable kayaks can be suited for all types of water, most will be built to perform best in one type only. If you plan on mostly paddling in calm lakes or rivers then you are going to want to only consider the recreational flatwater kayaks. If you love whitewater rapids and plan on maneuvering down raging rivers, then you definitely are going to want a kayak geared for whitewater performance. On the other hand if you want to do some lengthy sea expiditions, there are also inflatable kayaks for that. I would recommend choosing one type of water you will be on most and look for an inflatable kayak in that category.

2 Will you be kayaking solo or tandem? Inflatable kayaks are typically solo kayaks or tandem kayaks. Some will be able to hold 2 adults plus a small child or dog. Decide how much room you will need, whether for another person or for lots of gear.

3 How portable does your inflatable kayak need to be? In other words, will you be taking your kayak traveling with you, perhaps on an airplane. Inflatables kayaks can vary greatly by weight. If you plan on either kayaking alone a lot or taking it traveling with you then it would be wise to go for one that is light enough to handle easily and lift by yourself. If this is not so important to you and you will always have a second person with you then weight might not be such an issue.

4 What kind of kayaker are you? All kayaks will maneuver differently. Some are built more for speed, some more for stability, others for better tracking and still others for high performance. If you are a standard recreational kayaker then you will likely want a boat that tracks half decent and offers good stability.

5 Know your price point. Inflatable kayaks can vary in price from a couple hundred dollars up into the thousands. Decide what you want to spend then stick to it. It is very possible to get a great inflatable kayak for a good price. Also if you take good care of it and you want to sell it and upgrade later on, they tend to hold their value quite well.
